December to Remember: These Three Words [214/365]

Happy New YearHere I am ringing in 1997 at The Windows of the World on the top of the World Trade Center.  That was an incredible night.  If you are reading this, I hope tonight is an incredible night for you, and 2013 is an amazing year.  Here’s wishing you and yours a Happy New Year!

December to Remember: Take It to the Bridge [213/365]

Brooklyn BridgeI love bridges.  Living in cities that are known for their bridges was always an added bonus during my time in NYC/Brooklyn and San Francisco.  I am fond of this photo not only because I remember how much fun my girl Dalia and I had that day walking the city and crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, but it showcases the World Trade Center in all its glory.

December to Remember: Ruined [212/365]

Chichen ItzaA trip to Cancun is great for sun, sips and shaking what your mama gave ya.  But throwing in some sightseeing and culture is fun too.  In May 2002, in honor of my friend Pam’s 30th birthday, a group of us ended our trip with a tour of Chichen Itza.  Who knew, but five years later this Mayan City would be named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.  The climb up was a workout and scaling down the narrow, steep steps was tricky, but the view from the top was absolutely breathtaking.

December to Remember: Beach Bum [211/365]

Hanging in Venice BeachGrowing up an east coast girl my toes spent quality time in the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.  It wasn’t until a few days before my 30th birthday that I finally had the opportunity to feel the sand and surf of the Pacific Ocean.  Here I found happiness while hanging out in Venice Beach.  Shout out to the west side!  California will always have a piece of my heart.

December to Remember: What Can I Get You? [210/365]

BartendingIf you needed a Long Island Iced Tea, a Zombie, a Woo-Woo, you name it I made it.  Many of my friends were shocked and didn’t believe me, but I tended a bar for four months (Thursday – Sunday nights) at The Mirage nightclub in Southeast Washington, D.C.  Yes, THE Mirage.  Yes, in “Soufeas” in the mid-90s. It was an adventure.  I met a cast of characters, I had my regulars and I made some great tips.  I was still working my noon to 8pm shift at the TV station Monday through Fridays.  When I would take my tips over to the bank across the street from the station, located in a more affluent area of Northwest Washington, D.C., there were times the teller would give me the side-eye.  Not that it was any of their business but I assured them all of those singles were from mixing drinks.  Good grief!

December to Remember: Unwrapped Present [209/365]

The Texas OutlawLadies, if you spent any time in the D.C. area during the 90s and attended a bachelorette party this guy may look familiar to you.  My buddy Marco Washington, aka The Texas Outlaw, was kind enough to help me surprise my friend and co-worker on her birthday.  Not with a dance – just a quick appearance to deliver her a sunflower and a hug.  I didn’t realize he was going to show up at the TV station with only a vest on.  Politically, my bosses weren’t too happy but behind closed doors they told me it was a nice treat for them as well!
