“O” is for Oreo [279/365]

Oreo MuralCookie Monster may want to update his famous tune today.  Apparently, today is National Oreo Day. On this day in 1912 the first Oreo cookies were sold.  So, I thought I would honor the day with a photo I snapped a couple of years ago when I went back to my work stomping grounds at the Chelsea Market, which was the National Biscuit Company (NABISCO) factory where the Oreo was invented and produced.

The Great Kate Gets Half of Eight [267/365]

Hepburn OscarsA few months ago I stopped in the National Portrait Gallery for some visual stimulation and I stumbled across several versions of Oscar. These four belonged to Katharine Hepburn.  The first one on the left stands out from the others; it’s from 1933 for Morning Glory. The others are for Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967), On Golden Pond (1981), and The Lion in Winter (1968).

December to Remember: Ruined [212/365]

Chichen ItzaA trip to Cancun is great for sun, sips and shaking what your mama gave ya.  But throwing in some sightseeing and culture is fun too.  In May 2002, in honor of my friend Pam’s 30th birthday, a group of us ended our trip with a tour of Chichen Itza.  Who knew, but five years later this Mayan City would be named one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.  The climb up was a workout and scaling down the narrow, steep steps was tricky, but the view from the top was absolutely breathtaking.

December to Remember: Redskins Sidelines [205/365]

Redskins SidelinesThis date is significant in Redskins history because it was on this day in 1996 they played their last game at RFK Stadium beating the Cowboys 37-10.  I was fortunate to be on the sidelines during that game and witness the end of an era from the ground level.  When Jack Kent Cooke Stadium (now FedEx Field) opened the work continued for me producing promos with the team.  This is one of my favorite shots from the Monday night game the Redskins played the Cowboys (October 13, 1997) – another matchup the Redskins were victorious; winning 21-16.  I am here with photographer/editor Dave Satchell, my homie Tracy Owens, and sports producer Randy Nelson.
